FMP (Final Mayor Project) Portrait family box

That was My final Mayor Project for the National Diploma in Art and Design for the Edinburgh college.

My theme concerns to the Water colour/portrait with mix media design also using Photoshop.

The title of my project is «the rotation of the Homesickness» (Note the lack of someone or something «or» have feeling and worth for lack of someone or something) because is not a single piece wat I develop.

Thought this project I want to have a special individual meaning to create an evocative felling to the viewer.

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas, 19141953

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Upcycling product design

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless and/or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.

Over the last decade the term upcycling has been claimed and worked into the discourse of sustainability effort. It appeared in William McDoughts book «Cradle to cradle». It has yet to earn itself mainstream popularity, but it is necessity as a goal for how we should be processing makes its definition important. Like so many things in sustentability. I come across many enthusiast who are trying to promote the practice, but many be passing around and play an incorrect meaning.

After my the research with good examples of upcycling artist like Gabriel Dishaw with amazing projects I put all my effort on that project of upcycling using material from electronics machines to develop insects.

Most of the parts of the «Fly» are tinny electronics different pieces witch I have been collected before as a «redundant technology»

Some examples of my materials are (toaster machine)(bulbs)(cannon camera)  to give to the fly an bio/technological aspect.

The CD/Vinyl project

This BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design is giving me an understanding of the further educational opportunities available in the art and design world. It’s designed to support you to progress into a specific area of work or specialist study, working within fully-equipped art and design studios.

For the CD/Vinyl project at college we had to create a cover for a real band, The Scottish rock psychedelia band “The Valkarys” which are fantastic musicians.

The team of teachers organised a concert in which they would show the work awarded. It was a challenge and pushed me to learn about new media, investigate about the band and work hard on the idea of developing a new concept I had to build my own “game plan «. Learning while I am working really stimulated me.

Every time that I felt stuck, I had personalised assistance of teachers especially with the process of learning Photoshop from scratch was very gratifying.

The day of the Gig of The Valkarys band and the big surprise of being one of the finalists made me feel pleased to have achieved what I aspired. But at the end of the concert my design was chosen by the band and I was given the first prize. I felt accomplished, and saw that all my work was rewarded at such special moment, surrounded by my colleges.

The thought that one of my designs can be used on the market, and that a work done by me is valued and used with an artistic goal is best prize that could happen to me

Henceforth I will continue practicing what I think I do well. This is the great secret of building a successful studies.

The process of creation consist on doing a research and a deep study of the taste of the band .

In here we can see the sketchbook and how I Develop Ideas to create the end piece. Also the abstracts thoughts are changing while the process is going forward.

It is a Very Important thing to Develop step by step sketchbook just to keep some thoughts.

By using photoshop and with the help of friend , teachers and tutorials from internet I found the way to Develop the main concept for the Valkarys Vinyl cover.

The creation process also consisted in following a brief series of guided steps sheets provided by teachers.

Produce a CD or Vinyl Cover using Graphic, Photographic and/or Illustrative media and techniques.

The restrictions within this Design Brief are that the CD/Vinyl design must include the following:

The Band name – The Valkarys

  • The Title of Single/Album.
  • Track listing.
  • Appropriate typography.
  • Appropriate use of photography, printers and scanners
  • Appropriate graphic / visual information,
  • Use the given CD size, format, bar code and format logo – These will be given to you
  • Completed hard copy of final design either digitally or traditional cut and paste (immaculately done).
  • Present finished design and development work by the given deadline.
  • A written evaluation detailing how the Final Design meets all Design Brief restrictions within the given deadline in order to make your design ‘pitch’.

SCENARIO

This assignment is designed to investigate and explore how Artists and Designers use Graphic and Illustrative approaches to Visually Communicate complex information within the restrictions of a Design Brief. You will also develop your own skills in Visually communicating graphic and written information using a variety of approaches, techniques and materials in response to a restrictive Design Brief. Designers are normally given set and restrictive information to Visualize and Illustrate within the confines of a Design Brief for an external client. It is the skill of the Designer, to use a variety of creative approaches to successfully complete the Design Brief within the Design Brief restrictions and present the final outcome to the client. As a result it is important within the Design Field to fully analyse and respond to the Clients needs (the Design Brief) then professionally present a fully resolved final design solution to the Client for approval.

The band ‘The Valkarys’ were commissioning as to produce a design for the cover of their up single/album. The format of a CD/Vinyl cover. Alongside any possible promotional material, for example, badges, T shirts, posters etc.

The Band came into college during a day for a Client meeting with ourselves. This toke the form of a Q+ A session held within the Blue Block Studios. This allows as to gain first-hand information on who the band are and what they are about, their style of music, their influences, their deadline and other relevant information deemed necessary to help in the successful outcome of the final design and the overall project.

Waiter Abroad

Go to the college and study something that you like is a privilege and great luck. Especially studding the BTEC Art and Design course in Edinburgh College. I remember my first day in Granton campus, I felt impressed band also a bit nervous, however the hosting of the teachers was something that gave me personal safety, and also the warmth of classmates which I considered now friends.

I was over-impressed with the facilities of the building, the tools that are able to use by the student are awesome, all the materials that provide the school and also the opportunity of benefit of the computers and library.

College projects like sculpture or upcycling have been new to me. The process of learning something new has been inspirational and that is what excites me about a career in art. I consider myself self-taught and in need constant challenge. While doing my course I am enhancing my skills in new techniques and materials. I believe arts is a powerful tool to develop my own skills while having fun and I eagerly look for opportunities where I can participate and contribute towards it.
